Where We Meet - Unwired Dance

Interactive and immersive, audio-based dance installation

Where We Meet is an interactive and immersive, audio-based dance installation, by Unwired Dance Theatre, that invites audiences into the inner world of a character’s mind. This piece explores mental health and wellbeing, breaking down taboos by creating an empathetic, intimate experience.

As participants navigate the space, they can choose which characters to engage with, triggering personalized audio monologues through location-tracking technology and enabling one-on-one interactions with solo performers.

Originally conceived during the 2021 Dansathon, a technology and dance hackathon, Where We Meet earned the “Best Project” award, sponsored by the BNP Paribas Foundation and supported by Sadler’s Wells, Maison de la Danse in Lyon and Theatre de Liege.

The piece was co-directed by Creative Technology Lead, Clemence Debaig and Choreographer, Livia Massarelli.

Key Contributions

As a contributing Creative Technologist I helped to develop new features and expand the existing technology stack. Much of my work focussed on audio and projection networking.

  • Unity / c# - Developed spatial audio features, audio asset management and mobile UI
  • TouchDesigner - Created video monitoring tools, NDI interfaces, and prototyped interactive projections
  • openFrameworks / C++ - Extended and developed interactive stage projections
  • NDI - Developed embedded C++ integration for networked projection displays, using BirdDog reciever hardware
  • Python - Audio normalisation and debugging of OSC protocols
  • ETC Lighting Desk - Programmed and operated performance lighting
  • Wireshark - Debugged OSC and NDI communication
